Synchronicities (c. 2017 - 2022) is a series of photographs that examines the world through the idea that everything is connected. The concept of synchronicity was first proposed by the philosopher Carl Jung, who contended that events are "meaningful coincidences" if they occur with no causal relationship yet seem to be meaningfully related. While there have been accounts of such synchronicities occurring throughout the world, there is no empirical way to prove their existence. I believe that this gap between what exists in our minds and what takes place in observable reality is where all original thought, art, and divinity flow freely. For this project, I aim to capture visual synchronicities from everyday life by using color film as a tool to capture beauty in the subtlety of existence. The ephemeral nature of film can serve as a metaphor for what I wish to accomplish with Synchronicities: giving meaning to dull subjects and fleeting moments by forming significant connections in the minds of its viewers.
